Chris Baker

Chris Baker is Product Manager for Solaris x86 in Sun's System Software Product Marketing organisation. He's been in this role over three years and is part of the team driving Sun's investment in the x86 market.

Prior to that Chris spent over 6 years as a Systems Engineer in Sun's Software Sale organisation promoting Java and Solaris technologies into major accounts such as Ericsson and Siemens. Having previously worked in SCO's Engineering Services organisation, he offers over 15 years of PC Unix experience.

Chris is also involved with the user community that has grown up around Solaris x86 and finds the feedback he receives provides valuable input for helping shape the future of the product line.

Chris holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge.

Simon Cook

Simon has worked with Java technology since its release in 1995 as a student for Sun Microsystems.

Having received a degree in Computer Science from Brighton University Simon returned to Sun as a pre-sales technical consultant in Finance and then Media sectors. In the last two years Simon has been working as a lead Java consultant in the Solutions Technology Group.

Simon has a dislike of heights and is not a good swimmer.

 
   

Thomas Hawtin - Senior Staff Software Engineer

Tom works for Sun Ireland as an engineer within the Java SE security team. His role is to ensure that Java SE is the most secure platform for customers by identifying and closing security vulnerabilities, auditing JDK code, creating tools to do his own job and educating the developer community.

Tom joined Sun in 2007. Prior to that he had found numerous security vulnerabilities in Java SE and contributed code to Java SE 6 through Project Peabody. Tom has been programming in Java for over ten years, working for web content management, 4GL and call centre companies.

Tom holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of Bristol.

 
   

Matt Hosanee

Matt is a member of technical staff within Sun's software organisation. Working with Sun's key partners as well as supporting developer activities, Matt works to drive the Java community in Northern-Europe.

He has been with Sun for over 7 years, based out of the company’s United Kingdom headquarters. His qualifications include a BSc in Computer Science as well as being a Sun certified Java programmer, developer, web component developer and enterprise architect.

Matt's role is focused on adoption of Java technologies, porting, benchmarking and performance tuning Java applications, as well as evangelism and conducting technical workshops.

Clive King

Dr. Clive King is a Senior Staff Engineer in Sun's support organisation. He spends his time helping Sun's customers address a range of performance issues and improving the quality of diagnosis within the Sun's service organisation.

 
   

Phil Harman

Phil Harman is a Senior Staff Engineer within the Solaris kernel performance group. His main interests relate to holistic systems performance and multithreading. He has a reputation for authoritative yet humorous presentations.

 
   

Darren J Moffat

I'm a Senior Staff Engineer in the Solaris Security Technologies Group (part of Solaris Software). I'm involved with and own various security technologies that from core Solaris. I started with Sun UK in December 1996 working in Enterprise Services (then SunService) doing Trusted Solaris and general OS security support. I then joined sustaining engineering in Solaris Sofware for NFS/Naming products, before moving to California to join the development teams working on Solaris security.

Before Joining Sun I worked as an analyst/programmer for the UK Ministry of Defence. I'm a graduate of the Computing Science Department of Glasgow University in Scotland.

Simon Ritter

Simon specialises in looking at emerging technologies including grid computing, RFID, wireless sensor networks, robotics and wearable computing.

Simon has been in the IT business since 1984 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Brunel University in the U.K. Originally working in the area of UNIX development for AT&T UNIX System Labs and then Novell, Simon joined Sun in 1996 and started working with Java technology; he has spent time doing both Java development and consultancy.

 
   

Caryl Takvorian

Caryl is a Senior Engineer at Sun Microsystems. He joined Sun 6 years ago into what is now Market Development Engineering, and is currently assisting ISVs and OEMs to make the best use of Sun's technologies. His technical skills are around Solaris, development tools and embedded systems. Caryl is also a certified Java Programmer and Developer.

A French national, he holds a French Engineering degree and a Masters in Computer Science from Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey. Caryl has been living in the UK for more than 10 years now

Drew Wagar

Drew is an Identity and Security Consultant working for Sun Microsystems. He's been with Sun for over 8 years, working with clients to solve complex network computer problems. In that time he has become one of their lead architects on J2EE, Web Services, Portal and Identity technologies. With a background based in telecoms and development, Drew has seen a wide range of technologies come and go and is well placed to advise on future trends.

   

Andrew Walton

Andrew Walton is an engineer in Sun's Market Developement Engineering organization supporting ISV's through-out northern europe. Andrew has been with Sun for 6 years and has been working on Unix systems for almost 20 years.
